  • You can start showing them around age 3 with supervision! lol , but most kids wont master this skill until around 4 or maybe even 5 depending on their skills. Also coloring drawing, playing with lacing cards...helps to excercize those muscles used to cut.

I work in a preschool and have a degree in Early childhood education ;)

  • I think it depends on the child. Mine understood at 2. Seriously. Of course, he was talking up a storm by the time he was almost 2.

  • It all depends on when you teach them.

  • My son at 2 knew what those things did and had an idea of how they worked but he was not 'skilled' in it until he was almost 5. He still has trouble and needs supervision and some help. His fine motor skills are behind though.

  • Around 2. When I worked daycare with 18-36 month olds they ALL had the option to use glue and scissors during "art time" as long as they are supervised kid scissors and nontoxic glue are safe for under 2, but they don't really get how to use them until aver 2.

  • 3 or 4. They really need to have control over scissors and glue BEFORE entering Kindergarten.

  • That all depends on the child I've worked with kids and some in daycare learn it earlier than other . As long as you repeatly show them at home the concept as early as 2 they will understand one day . You cant just spring it on them at 5 in kindergargen and think they know how to cut a straight line...
