How much baby food should my baby be eating?

I have a six month old boy, my first and I'm not sure if i should be feeding him more baby food than giving him bottles or what? Help please!

  • Food before one is just for fun.

    breastmilk/formula first. solids second.

  • Good answer, amileegirl!

Food is for texture exploring and should not (yet) displace breastmilk or scientifically formulated substitutes. Babies need more fat and calories than most other foods can provide when they are so young.

  • You can feed him all the baby food you want as long as he does not start taking less formula or breastmilk. The amount of liquid nourishment he takes shouldn't drop until he's eating table foods.

  • Formula or breastmilk first. Then, just follow their lead on solids before one year.
