Formula

I asked a bit ago and didn't really get the answer I needed. How many ounces of formula should I be giving my 8 day old at each feeding?

  • 6-8? Um...LOL

Feed on demand. Different babies take different amounts. Start with 2oz and go from there. If the baby is still hungry, give a couple more. If not...then you know you're good for now. Just follow the baby's cues and you can't go wrong.

  • Don't listen to MamasAngelPie!! She's jerking your chain. No one week old is going to take 6-8oz of formula at one feeding!

  • You can offer 6-8oz but the baby isn't going to take it all. She will stop when she's not hungry any longer.

  • I think someone is making multiple posts. A one week old MIGHT take up to 4oz, but not 6.

  • I would say about 4 oz. If the baby seems to still be hungry the make another 2 oz. I deff wouldnt go over 6 oz though!! That might cause the baby to vomit!

  • If you are nursing and supplementing you will give less. It depends on the baby. An 8 day's old stomach is very small and can't hold very much. I wouldn't do more than 2 oz.

    As I said before:

Babies who don't seem "satisfied" are generally going through growth spurts. Most commonly the first week, third week, six weeks, 8 weeks, 3-4 months, six months, nine months.

They nurse constantly to build a milk supply just before their spurt. They may be wakeful, fussy, and clingy. They have a strong drive to suck for this reason. It's normal.
