Local food pantries and shelters always need help. The Salvation Army helps a lot of children receive a Christmas through donations made by people who care. Don't fall for the hoax of sending a Christmas card to "A Wounded Soldier" at the Walter Reed Army Hospital - they will not accept them due to security purposes. Instead, go to the Red Cross website and they will tell you how they are accepting cards for wounded soldiers so they can personally deliver them themselves.
Look for the website for your town, county, and nearest city to see what functions they are holding to raise money for Christmas for various charities. Check with local churches, too.
Also, you can look up your favorite charities or causes online and donate to them anytime during the year. I bet they would love a little extra during the Christmas season.
