Yes I'm an older mom but I'm a new mom and a little nervous....

My son has started to roll onto his side to sleep, is this normal? He's 4 and 1/2 months old, I know it's not too long before he rolls over just want to be sure it's ok.

  • Alot of kids do that, side sleeping is safe. But both my kids were belly sleepers, they HATED being on their backs.

  • New moms are new moms no matter what age!

It's okay if he rolls on his own. They say you should always lay him down on his back, but if he rolls on his own it's okay. You don't have to put him back on his back or anything like that. If he's strong enough to get there he's okay.

    Congrats on the baby!

  • This is completely normal. My baby started rolling on her side to sleep at about 2 1/2 months old. She now rolls over on her belly sometimes. I think that they sleep better because they have a sense of security.

  • Yes, my daughter always slept on her side, even when she was a newborn. We put her in a sleep positioner on her side, but once they can roll it's fine.

  • My daughter started rolling onto her tummy to sleep at about that age. I was terrified of SIDS, so I kept repositioning her. It didn't do any good - she'd just roll back. You can try putting him on his back again if you want, but he may just prefer his side.

  • My DD has been rolling on her side since she was only 2 weeks old. I brought this up with her pediatrician and was told not to worry just make sure I always start her on her back and when she begins to roll all the way over remove everything from her crib. No blankets, bumpers, anything!
