  • Most babies do not sleep through the night as people define it as eight hours or more (they have small stomachs and get hungry sooner and small bladders so can not hold as much for long). And even sometimes people who say their babies sleep through don't realize that a lot of babies will wake up,but just won't call out. Most adults wake at some point during the night to go to the bathroom, shift position, itch, adjust covers etc.

You should consider a "sleep through" a four hour stretch a brief awakening to pee/eat and then resume sleeping.

  • My first started sleeping through the night at 2.5 months and has continued ever since (he's 2.5 years now). My second started sleeping through the night at 7 weeks, but then started waking up again at 6 months when I began leaving her home when I went to work (she's 7 months now). I was lucky, though; sleeping through the night that young is not the norm. There is no "normal" where that's concerned, really; it just happens when it happens, and there's not much you can do about it either way.

  • At 6 weeks my daughter would wake once around 3am and at 8 weeks she moved to waking around 4:30am. Is your little one on a routine? If not let me suggest that. She is now 4 mths and her last nap is 6pm - 8pm. So, she is back in bed by 10pm. It took us waking her @ 8pm in her early weeks to get her on this schedule. Routine schedules are important
