which is better: straight sucktion vacuum or a rotating brush vacuum?

I am trying to find a vacuum that will suck up pet hair off the carpet along with my toddlers food crums. My current vacuum is not cutting it. I would like to try to stay below 100 dollars and I say Kmart had some. any advice on which would be better and any other details to look for?

  • If you are vacuumng primarily carpet, you want the beater bar type to lift the carpet fibers and "scoop" up what might be wiggled into the nap, something a straight suction vacuum isn't going to be able to do unless it has super duper major powerful suction. Speaking of suction, it doesn't really matter what type of vacuum you get if it doesn't have enough power to do the job, so get the most powerful vacuum that you can afford.
