Apple Juice, Applesauce, And just Apples..please help!!

Really, my DD has had a bad bellyache - diarrhea (TMI sorry) for about three days. I know to feed her the BRAT diet however aren't apples to make you go? But i have heard that applesauce is binding and so is the juice. So can you clarify for me please the difference if there is any??

  • Apple juice will make her go. Applesauce is the "A" in the BRAT diet.

  • Bananas are good for diarrhea. That and toast with jelly.

  • So applesauce is binding because this is what the BRAT diet is for correct?? But not apples or apple juice?? I don't mean to sound completely stupid here, but everyone is telling me different.

  • OK..bananas and toast, check!! thanks!!

  • Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast

When they have diarrhea, anything with sugar is BAD and this includes jelly.

The hell with "BRAT" Just give her whatever carbs and starchy food she wants. It's not just those four things that bind...anything starchy, but no fat.

  • Applesauce binds along with bananas, breads, rice, potaotes and tea.... things that are high in starch
Stay way from all fruit juices and anything sugary
Lactose also make diarrhea worse so avoid most milk products EXCEPT yogurt is good because it replaces the good bacteria in the stomach that have been lost due to the illness.

  • Seems contradictory BUT:

APPLESAUCE (make sure it's UNSWEETENED) is made from the whole fruit,
which means it contains pectin, it's the pectin that firms stools.
Plus, because it's pureed, it's easier to digest and easier on babies stomach.
Don't give baby too much applesauce (unsweetened), moderation is the key.

APPLEJUICE (UNSWEETENED) contains natural sugar called SORBITOL occurring
during the processing or breakdown in apple juicing.
Sorbitol is known to either cause or aggravate diarrhea. Also it's a lot easier to drink too much juice
    than eat too much applesauce.

APPLES (RAW) can cause diarrhea or constipation in SOME people so to be on the safe side,
doctors say don't eat them! Plus raw apples are not pureed and the larger chunks make raw apple
harder to digest and so harder on digestive system.

Ripe mashed bananas, rice puffs (because it has no gluten) & boiled mashed rice best.
