I need 3 cheap dinner meals for this weekend...

I'm going grocery shopping and only want to spend around$50 on atleast 3 meals. Got any ideas?

  • i can cut that down to about $20-25

    Boiled dinner- (soup)
2 large smoked turkey legs (or ham hocks), 3 lbs potatoes (cut in 1/2-1/3rds), 1lb carrots, (cut in 1/3), 5-6 ribs celery (cut in 1/3), 1 large onion (cut in wedges), 1 packet french onion soup mix (or whatever herbs/spices you like- i don't use the packet mixes). put all in a large pot, cover with water, boil over med/low for about 3 hours.

    Fried Rice (with chicken)
3 cups cooked rice, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp each- ginger, pepper, chili powder, allspice, 2 cups cooked veggies (peas, carrots, onions, broccoli, etc.), 4 scrambled eggs, and 2 cups cooked chicken (cut up).
place rice and veggies in pan with 3 Tbl spoons oil, cook over med, add the rest of ingred, cook until all heated through.

Cube Steak with roasted potatoes (cut up, toss in oil w/ seasonings and roast @ 400), random veggie/salad, fruit

I have tons of budget meals on there. One of the things I do is morph food from one meal to the next. Like roast a whole chicken one night then boil the left overs for soup.
