How old are babies when they start crawling?

My daughter will be 9 mos in about a week and she still doesn't crawl. She can get on to all fours but only for a couple of seconds. She can stand for a few seconds at a time though and she rolls and rolls and rolls everywhere else. She also can't sit up by herself (she can sit unsupported but cant go from laying down to sitting). My grandma told me the other day that she should be crawling and sitting up by now. So I was just wondering if this was normal or if it's something that I should be worried about.

  • My son is 5 months old. He's been crawling for about two weeks...he sits up on his own. I dunno...maybe he's just early? I would imagine she should at LEAST be crawling by now....my neice is 8 months old and she is not crawling yet either..

  • Do Not Worry! My daughter did not crawl until she was 11 months! She actually just started walking on Tuesday! She was 19 months on the 3rd. They all do things at their own pace. She is probably going to be cautious and careful like my daughter. Dont worry trust me...

  • Yes 5 months is way early for crawling! Dont listen to other ppl who's kids were faster. All babies are different. My daughter walked late but she has almost 50 words in her vocabulary, she is starting to form sentences and she speaks crystal clear she does not mumble. Your daughter is fine!

  • I had one crawl at 8 months and one crawl at 9. I have a 6 month old who is no where near crawling.

  • Crawling is not a milestone. Some kids never crawl! Don't worry! She'll crawl/walk when she feels she's ready! My son just turned 15 months and he's still not walking! He's taking steps, but not walking. I know he'll do it in his own time!
    Try not to worry!!

  • can she army crawl (like on her belly). Getting on all fours is the step before crawling. Sounds like she will get there soon if she is going to be a crawler. Some babies never crawl and go right into walking. I was one of those babies. My mom told me that I NEVER would crawl.

My daughter is 9 months old and just started to crawl on all fours about 3 weeks ago. She was army crawling at around 6 months. The getting into a sitting positon on her own, that just started this week. Your daughter sounds like she is doing just fine. Keep up the great work mama!

  • My kids both crawled before that (my son started at 4 1/2 months! YIKES!) BU-UT my nephew never crawled- - he went straight from rolling to walking. Either way, your child is doing just fine :)

  • every baby is different! Mine started crawling at 5 months, and was walking at 8, but he was doing everything early (except for talking, he is now 24 months and jus started talking) Don't worry! it will happen! Some baby don't even crawl at all, they just walk. Good luck mama!
