Does the type of cardio matter?

If I do cardio by means of exercise bike or elyptical, am I still burning fat?

  • You burn calories. The first calories to go will be the simple sugars in your blood stream. The next ones to go will be the complex carbs that break down into simple sugars. Finally you will start burning fat by breaking it down into carbs then sugars.

Cardio is the most efficient exercise for burning calories. It strengthens the heart and lungs and all the skeletal muscles to some degree. Biking, jogging, elliptical, or swimming will all satisfy your calorie burning and heart strengthening needs.

Women need load baring exercise. Our pelvic floor muscles become stretched and weakened by having kids. Incorporating light weights for 10 minutes AFTER your cardio session will dramatically change your results.

  • that means the first 20 minutes don't count if you are trying to lose. For maximum heart benifets you should raise your heart beat to above 65% of normal.
