How would you clean unfinished wood floors? What would you use to finish them?

we moved into a new(old) house. The floor in the dinning room was finished. The rest of the hosue had carpet, that they tore out. and left the wood floors underneath unfinished. Its pretty wood. But im afraid since its unfinished it will soak up anything that spills, and cleanser i use, etc.

  • damp (soaked mop) u mist ring it out really good. Sweep it good first and the use a damp mop (as to pick up dust) you dont want to soak it completely where the water has to sit for long periods of time to dry. you can get wood finishers I think u can use the same thing u would use to finish a piece of furniture (but I dont think u would ant anything glossy ) :)

  • We use vinegar and water on our finished hardwood floors; I think that it would be fine on unfinished. Use gymcoat to finish the floors; it will give you the longest lasting finish.

  • You can clean with any very gentle cleaner, just minimize the amount of water that gets on it, and finish it ASAP. Go to Home Depot/Lowe's/any good hardware store and they can guide you to the right types of products/supplies.
