Which registry did you use and why?

  • We've been banked with Viacord for both of our sons since January 2002 and December 2003. They are based in Boston. At the time we felt they were the best to work with (that may have since changed, but we've always been happy with them). Of course, we have no idea if bankingtheir cord blood will "pay off" in the future, but we thought we'd be kicking ourselves, if cord blood turned out to have the "cure" or gene therapy that our children (who have been diagnosed with Autism) could benefit from!

    We look at it as an "insurance policy."

    I THINK we paid about $1000 for the collection (each child) and the first two years storage (they were just getting started then), and now pay $95/year per child for storage. They do offer multi-year discount packages, but being that not a lot of "success" stories have come of cord blood use, we're continuing to pay on a yearly basis for now. :o)
