After having a child, can you get pregnant right away? (come on in and tell me no please)

When do you start ovulating after giving birth? Does breastfeeding really affect ovulation at this point?

If i'm pregnant again a month later i'm going to lose my mind. We had "penetration" twice, I dont call it sex because it hurt so we stopped. But cheetos smell like urine to me and that's just weird.

  • My brother and I are 10 months apart and I have a friend whose 2nd baby is due around baby #1 - 1st birthday.
So yes you can get pregnant.
I didn't ovulate whilst breastfeeding, but given the number of breastfeeding mothers who are pregnant by the time baby #1 is 6 months old - I guess I am different.
Good luck if you are pregnant. 2 close together is a lot of work to start with but once they are a little older they are great play mates.

  • I can start birth control in another two weeks and i've already said we're not having sex until then, we tried to use a condom this last time- actually we DID use the condom- but it was pathetic how small the condom was on him... and the baby was crying so we didn't get too far anyways.

  • You CAN, but the likelyhood of it varies. Is your baby under 6 months? Have you had a period? Are you EXCLUSIVELY breastfeeding on demand? Do you track your ovulation? Do you think you have ovulated? Breastfeeding can play a big role in hindering ovulation but there are plenty more things to think about. I wouldn't worry since the penetration didn't last long in addition to other things. Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

  • Don't be such a bitch anon. I think she can find her own birth control. But yes, BFing can really affect your chances of conception. It's not as simple as BFing = no pregnancy though. It varies by woman and you have to know your body.
