Molasses Cookies

I love a good, DARK Molasses cookie, problem is this- I LOST MY RECIPE!!! it was my great, great grans recipe... it was rather unusual, and I have tried to google one like it without success.

It was made with Dark Molasses, Hot Water, TONS of spices... It was slightly crisp, and not overly sweet, and PERFECT for making some of the most beautifully decorated cookies ever! It held up soooo well to being shipped.

Have any of you ever encountered one like this? if so, WHERE????

  • Here's a page with molasses cookie recipes, I did find one that called for specifically dark molasses but it didn't have many spices...

  • 1 1/4 c firmly packed lt. brn. sugar 3/4 stick butter
    6 tblspns shortening 2 c. dark molasses
1 tblspn baking soda 1/4 c boiling water
    6 2/3 c sifted flour 1 tbspn cloves
1 tbspn cinnamon 2 tbspn ground ginger
( some people put ground black pepper in it also and a dash of salt)
( some old world recipes also ask for 1/2 tsp cardamom)
If this seems to be your list of ingredients, let me know. I'll send you the directions.

This is an old world recipe from Morocco, I have in a cookbook from 1923. The cookies are rolled out and cut, are crisp and very brown in color when baked.
