Boys & Walking

Did your son learn to walk early or late? My son will be a year in 3 weeks and is trying to walk but will not let go of my finger to walk. A lil girl at my church exactly a week younger than him has been walking since she was 9 months. I know I shouldn't compare but I have heard that most boys learn things slower. My son didn't learn to roll over til he was 5 months and didnt crawl til 9 months as well. Just wondering

  • my son started walking at about 9 months and we knew a little girl who didn't walk till she was a year old, it just varies from child to child

  • Ehh . . like pp said, it varies from child to child. My daughter didn't walk consistently until 14 months old. I have heard that boys take longer to potty train though.

  • DS rolled over both ways at 3 months, crawled at 6 months and walked at 10 months.
My neice who is 11 days younger, did not start walking until after her first birthday or crawling until 10 months.

  • I really don't think that it's a difference between boys or girls but a difference between each baby.
My oldest son walked at 13 months and my youngest at 11 and half months whereas one of my nieces only got to walk at 18 months (and even so she doesn't walk a lot).
Don't worry, your son will do it when he is ready and then you'll wish he was still crawling (less accessible things this way) ! lol

  • It varies from kid to kid, it doesn't matter what sex the kid is.

All three of my boys were walking way before a year (9 months the earliest), rolling both ways before 3 months, sitting at 4, etc....they did all the gross motor activities early.

He's doing well, just keep working with him and practicing. He'll be running circles around you soon.

  • My husband was 9 months, I was 10 months & our son was 15 months before he was 100% on his own. There is no set time.

Now, our son WAS rolling over & creeping very early, he was holding his own head by 4 weeks! He just had no intrest in walking alone. Now, he runs & climbs all over everything at 31 months!

  • my son didnt walk until 3 days after his 18 month birthday. it all depends on the child he will walk when ready and trust me you are going to wish he would just sit down
