Energy Saving Lightbulbs

I bought them and they burn out. They might save energy but its not saving on my wallet. Is it possible that the light fixtures in my house (built in the 80's) are not compatible with the new energy bulbs?

  • Are they ESLs or compact fluorescents? If the fixtures are dimmable and the CFLs are not, this would cause them to burn out. Our CFLs last around 7 years...
