Are yams white or orange?

I'm not talking about candied yams you have for thanksgiving.. I mean the real potato.. My boyfriend swears they are the white ones, I think they are orange.. which is correct?

  • They can be orange, yellow, white or purple; sweet potatoes may come in other colors, but these are the ones that I have seen.

  • I personally have only seen yams/sweet potatoes with orange or purple flesh - have never heard of them having white flesh. White flesh is a normal potato IMO.

I have never seen these colored yams, lol? where do u find them I have only seen orange ones. As well Yams is the term usually used after they are cooked into something else rather than just the sweet potato :)

  • The white sweet potatoes originated in Japan, and are also called boniato (I think that's the name, I am very tired)

  • A true yam you cannot even get in this country. Sweet potatoes can be lite or dark. The white are watery and the orange are woody. Take your pick.
