  • Christians are not commanded to tithe. God himself put an end to the Mosaic Law, via the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ, along with its tithing arrangements (Romans 6:14; Colossians 2:13,14). Christians are now only asked to make voluntary contributions. "Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2Cor 9:7

  • Yes, we should. (Malachi 3:7-11) It all belongs to God anyway...

  • In a perfect world yes we are., but there times when we just can't. We do need to take care of our families first. Plus there are other ways of giving. That's where Time, Talent and treasure comes into play. If you are living pay check to pay it doesn't do anyone any good to stretch yourself so thin that you can't even put food on your table. Also you don't have to give completely to your Church but to others. Do you spend time helping neighbors with things that they can't do themselves? Like offering to babysit without being paid so they can do something they need to do? Or do volunteer work? That is also a part of your tithe. There a few Protestant religions that teach if you don't tithe then God will not bless you. Many use the poor women who gave her cent as an example. they forget the important part of that message. She gave all of her self. She believed in God fully and humbly. It was her humility that blessed her. cont.

  • Cont. Then there the story of the prophet in the OT that went to a widow to he asked for something to eat. for at that time it was custom to feed your guests before you feed your self. She refused at first because she just had enough for her and her son. She was planning on feeding the last to herself and her son, then they were going to die. The prophet told her to basically just do it and you will not go hungry. She finally gave in and believed all three of them ate for a year from her little stock pile. All because she gave in and believed and gave. So give what you can even if it's extra cans of food for the food bank, or helping someone who really need your help. Even offering to clean the Church for free so they don't have to pay someone to it. The list goes on. That is giving to God what is God's.

  • No where in the bible does it tell you that you must tithe. That's just in the churches plan to squeeze what they can out of you & to help pay for the building & salaries.

  • Anon 5: 47 That is the story which came to my mind about the elder woman and her purse. She gave low in value but she gave ALL that she had, which made it more than the multitude of coins being dropped in by the rich. Luke 21. I guess its ok to contribute with the motives are whole heartedly. It doesnt have to always mean money.

  • The minister deserves to live in a clean and safe home and send his children to school in decent clothes. My mom used to get so mad at my dad for giving to the church then she visited the minister's home and saw how modestly the family lived. The minister is available to the congregation 24/7. He should be taken care of by the congregation.
