How can you tell if a nose is broken without getting an xray?

  • By looking at it, if the patient is an adult. If it is a small child, noses are hardly broken as the bone tissue hasn't hardened yet.

  • Brian fell with the bridge of his nose on the corner of a table when he was just 2 (Easter weekend). The ped said if he didn't cry continuously and it didn't "feel crunchy" then he was probably ok. He did end up with two black eyes as the bruising spread. Does that help at all?

  • alot of times there will be a raccoon like bruise around the eyes, and alot of blood, but other than that its not really all that easy.

  • my brother broke my nose when i was in 5th grade (we were fighting) and it was bruised and swollen. you can still feel the break bc the calcuim deposits made it bumpy
