Ear infection

Does anyone know of anything do do for a year old who has an ear infection and really bad diareah? The dr gave us med to give him and since he has had diareah and his butt is soooo red its like we have to hold him down just to change his diaper. Started him on pedilyte tonight so hopefully that helps.

  • Check out Auraglan to manage the pain from his ear infection. Keep a lot of vaseline/ diaper ointment on his bottom so the poo doesn't come into direct contact.

  • Wash his bum with soapy water every time after the diarrhea. The wipes just don't cut it and the acid stays on there. Also, you can put polysporin or loads of cornstarch on his bum after each bout of poop. poor thing. Not sure about the ear issue unless you're on antibiotics.

  • like pp said- wipes just don't cut it. even if you just use a bowl of warm soapy water, that alone will help! when ds had rotovirus, it was so bad that he was pooing blood! (that was a fun trip to the er!), what was causing it was the acidity of his poop. is he isn't vomiting, call the doctors office and see if they will prescribe something to lessen it. i don't generally do meds, but after what we experienced, i dont eff around with diarrhea.
make sure to keep his butt covered in some sort of barrier- straight corn starch, or vaseline... good luck.

  • When my DS had diarhea I would just put him in the bath and let the warm water wash off the poop. and then put some malox (yes the stomach ache stuff) on his butt and what it does is pull out the acid and also create a bearer between his skin and diaper and it washes off so much easier than destin. you can also give him a little malox to settle his tummy some.
