How do you treat "cold in the eye?"

I've never heard of it, but everyone keeps saying my daughter has a little cold in her eye. She wakes up with really gunky eyes, she can still open them, but it's really hard to get all of it off. She fights with me about it too, she's only 3. I was thinking of taking her to the doctor, but she improves slightly every day. Is there something that causes this? Something more I can do to get it to go away faster?

  • A warm compress can help draw all the gunk out. If her eyes turn really pink, then get her to the peds.

  • If it's viral, it will go away on it's own.

But if it's bacterial, she'll need antibiotic eye drops.
