Belgian Malinois

Has anyone had experience with this breed? I'm thinking of taking one on as a working cattle dog... wonder how well they'd work?

  • I haven't had experience with them, but I do know they are a very high energy need a job to do kind of dog. They are mostly used in police work so how they would be with cattle is something you would have to research. Google some Malinois breeders and ask them what they think.

I will say I have seen a few and they are beautiful dogs.

  • I have seen them, met them, and done as much research as I possibly can, and this breed would fit well with our family and our activity level if their herding instinct could be funnelled into cattle work.

  • They were bred to herd (yeah sheep, but still) I think they would do amazing and love having a job like that. I know many of our police dogs here are Belgian Malinois or a mix of. What specifically do you like about the breed? There are breeds bred for cattle work specifically (Heelers-also called Australian Cattle Dogs for example). They are pretty dogs so its understandable.
