  • If you are already pregnant, it might be hard to get it without having to pay huge payments since it's a "preexisting condition"...I would honestly look into getting on your state's medicaid program. They generally have income extentions for pregnancy, meaning you can make more than someone who is not pregnant and still be accepted. Many times you can sign up at the health department, but if not, they can at least direct you on where to go. Also, they told me they actually WANT to sign up more people because that means more funding or more something to benefit their they will sometimes look for loop holes to help you get approved...and there may also be a fee for service plan available if you make slight above the income requirements.

  • If you are mid to lower income, you can get it through Medicaid. Look up your local medicaid or momcare programs in your area. If you have insurance through work (or can get it) or your SO has it, you can do it this way. Most of your larger business related insurances can't or won't count pregnancy as a pre-existing condition. It may cost you more if your only option is individual coverage. If you aren't married, there is also another option. Are your close to your SO, or have y'all been considering getting married? If your SO has a job and good insurance, you can have a civil ceremony now. You will then be a dependent, and can get on his insurance. I was added to SO's coverage once it kicked in. There was a delay because he was a new employee. But my pregnancy was not considered pre-existing. Laws have been made to prevent at least the employment based coverage from doing that (in some places, not all).

  • PCAP is what New York state has for pregnant women. Sign up threw the social service office. If you can't get PCAP then there are so many clinics for pregnant women to go to and get full care.

  • Medicaid. I know alot of people are struggling and are too proud to apply, but now is the time to put that pride aside and get some prenatal care for yourself!
