Has anyone been to Jamaica recently?

I bought a 4 night package at an inclusive resort in Ochos Rios for my parent's 40th anniversary. Apparently, a number of people have told them not to go to Jamaica because of the crime. Is the crime in Jamaica really that bad? They are the type of people who like to get out and see the sights, not just lay around on a beach. So I don't think that simply staying at the resort would hold much appeal to them.

  • We went to Ocho Rios in 07 & it was great, stay out of kingston, no really STAY OUT OF KINGSTON, especially if you're white. Ocho rios is a tourist spot so they are diff than the slum areas. They try really hard to keep the rastas & the locals from harrasing the tourists. Now ppl will approach you on the street to sell you stuff but they won't attack you & the excursions offered are safe. Stay w/ others & don't let the females get separated, there is the slave/prostitution trade & its alive & thriving in all countries even america!!!! Have fun & don't worry & hey they local "plant life" is well worth it too.
