  • Some practices will to determine the gestational age. I had one at my first visit with both my son and this pregnancy!

  • I did with this pregnancy but with my other 2 no, but I had different insurances and this time an ob instead of a midwife. She only did it to check gestational age, and then I got the standard 20 week one later.

  • My Doc always did a vaginal sonogram to hear the heartbeat, 7-8 weeks.

  • they did with me, hint: if you don't know when your lmp was they probably will to determine gestation. i found this out at my first appt. they sent me right up to get one at the hospital.

  • Some practices might, but I never had any at all through my pregnancies so it will vary.

  • Everybody's different. With all but of my pregnancies, I had 1 ultrasound around 22 weeks. With my 4th, I was cramping really bad at 12 weeks so they did an extra one then to make sure the baby was growing, had a heartbeat, and there was only 1 baby. Too many ultrasounds can be a not-so-good thing.
