  • Have you done "time outs" or let him cry alone in the crib ever?
This can cause babies to fear not only their crib but sleep in general.

  • Could be, kids associate things differently than adults do. His crib may remind him of a traumatic dream that keeps scaring him. If he has to stay in his crib for safety reasons try putting one of your unwashed tee shirts on his favorite stuffed animal & put it in w/ him. Leave enough light on so he can see where he is. If he likes music get his fav cd & put it on repeat so when he wakes up he hears it. Let him spend awake time in his crib playing so he can see there's nothing to be afraid of. don't know your religion but do whatever type of spiritual prayer you do over it to remove any bad feelings.

  • he might just feel cramped up in the crib. babies can get claustrophobic too.

  • I WOULD SAY PUT HIM IN A TODDLER BED AND BUY THOSE BED GUIDES AND PUT THEM ON THE SIDES SO HE WONT FALL OFF HE IS ALMOST A YEAR OLD AND THAT WHEN I PUT MY GIRLS IN A TODDLER BED.

  • Oh don't start this, when DS was about 10 months the same thing happened and I started letting him sleep with us, now at 5 we battle to get him in his own bed! I like the toddler bed suggestion! Or move the crib into your room, that way you will be close to him, but can keep moving it farther away the older he gets, good luck momma!

  • Kimigogo, she's not talking about cosleeping - it says he slept in the spare bed.

You could leave him in the spare bed. When we put our daughter from our bed to a bed by herself we just put her in a double. It is on the floor (on boxsprings) and pushed into a corner. She has never fallen out, either.

  • My son hardly EVER slept in his crib. He hated it and would wake up constantly. As soon as we put him in the spare bed, he started sleeping there! Weirdest thing. But he was a bit older than 10 months. And since he wouldn't sleep in his crib, we co-slept till about 1.5 and then we figured out the spare bed worked well. He had to fall asleep with cartoons though, but hey! It worked!

Do what works! I would try a toddler bed too or just put rails on the spare bed :)
