How rare is it to have twins if there are no previous twins in either of your families?

  • Identical twins are random. NO genetic component. Fraternal twins (the release of 2 eggs) has genetic factors but also can occur at random. It makes no difference if twins "run" in the father's side. Go google it.

  • Yes it happens all the time. your chances of fraternal twins is higher if they run in your mothers side, but many people have identical and fraternal twins with no family history.

  • i definitely wouldn't say it's rare but single pregnancies are a lot more likely :) you'd probably have to do some googling to get some % chances

  • I say its pretty rare.but then again they say that older women do have a chance of having twins . (women in their late 40's) or is it really your husbands.? lol! just kidding.
