If a recipe calls for unsalted butter does it matter if you use salted and maybe omit the additional salt in the recipe?

  • Usually for every stick of salted butter you use you are supposed to remove 1/4 a teaspoon of salt from the recipe.

  • It depends on what you are cooking. What recipe is it?

  • I use salted butter and cut back on the salt. Never hurts to cut back on the salt anyway.

  • I do that - use salted & no salt if it calls for unsalted. I've never had anything come out bad. I don't buy unsalted butter - but I do make my own unsalted on occasion and cook with it.
