Always says doesnt feel good. Missed Way to much school

My DS 16 has missed about 14 days of school so far this year. Always has a headache , tummy ache bla bla bla. I can not man handle him and make him go to school. I am so afraid that he is going to turn out to be nothing. Freaking out. What would you do?

  • Maybe something is happening at school. Is he being bullied? Is he having trouble learning? So much goes on with kids that they don't want to tell mom or dad but he needs to bc if this continues you could be arrested for his truancy. Many school districts are cracking down on parents allowing kids to stay home.

  • my daughter went through this last year- part of it was depression and the meds she was on.
I would try talking to him and listening to what he says- Don't come down on him, jsut try to see if you can fix it together

  • My sister got a $500 fine for my nephew missing too much school. Turns out that he was just lazy and didn't want to go. Now when he thinks he needs to stay home, she makes him a doctors appointment for early in the morning. If the doctor says he's fine, she drops him off at school directly after the appointment. It's gotten to the point to where he'd just rather go to school than to the doctor.

  • Our rule is: if you don't have a fever and you are not throwing up, you go to school.

  • Every time he complains he has a choice - school or dr.
If each time the dr says he is fine then he gets a choice - school or therapy

time to stay strong... and YES you can make him go to school - you are the mom. If he is still being a twit then you have to up the anti and call the truant officer.

If you keep allowing it he will see you as weak and live up to your expectation of being nothing.

  • Um, hello....you are the mom. Of course you can make him go to school. School is not an option, it is mandatory. Unless mine are puking, hacking up a lung or burning up with a fever...they go to school. Period! Constant headaches would warrant a visit to the doctors after a week of headaches since headaches are hard to verify. Everything else is easy to verify. You have allowed him to get away with it so now, well, he's going to.

  • Whats wrong do you know why he dosen't want to go to school,Really? Are his classes getting to diffult for him to understand? Maybe you can sweitch him to easier teachers. Is he having trouble with other kids? I he being teased for some reason? or is he being threatened by them in any way. like people taking his lunch money , ? or is it that he just dosen't want to go because he's lazy.? Find out the real reason why and work it out with him .

  • Well contact a truancy officer. Tough love momma. You can't force him to go,but they will hold YOU accountable for his not being there. Stop covering for his little ass and turn him in. Part of parenting is doing what is best for your kid even when it is not fun to do.
