  • You need a doctor who shares your medical philosophy. Do you prefer someone warm and fuzzy or businesslike? What are your views on vaccinations? Do you want a doctor who does not object to alternative/complementary treatments?

My spouse, daughter and I; my sister and her family and several friends all see the same family practioner. Family medicine is best for us...

  • it depends on what you want as a patient. think about that long and hard, sometimes you don't realize what you want as a patient until it's too late. they should provide you with something in writing welcoming you newly to the office. look at hours, look at cancelling policies, look at payment and collection policies, look at lobby rules posted, look at how they handle call backs and after hours calls, look at what hospital they have priveledges at, look at the cleanliness of the bathrooms and staff clothing, listen to the staff as they talk on the phone and to each other. all of that seemingly insignificant stuff is very important. watch the drug reps when the walk in and out and count how many come and go, ask the people in the lobby how long they've been waiting, look at the magazine dates, do they have appropriate toys and tv in the lobby. look and listen to everything.
