A gift for the teacher?

My SD is in 2nd grade and I was wondering if it is still customary to give a small gift to the teacher for the holidays. If so, what should we give her?

  • Having a few friends as teachers, I can give you pretty good advice on this. Skip candles, trinkets, and scented lotions. Teachers get a stock pile of these gifts. Instead, go for a gift card or perhaps home made cookies or candy.

  • Teachers love to get hand-written thank yous from their students. They appreciate giftcards, especially to teacher-supply or office supply stores; most teachers spend hundreds of dollars of their own money on supplies.

  • Our boys picked out some yummy chocolates from Russel Stover and a Teacher Christmas keepsake ornament that was a tiny mouse holding an apple and it said "Teacher you're Terrific" . They loved them.

  • We never get anything, lol I know some make think its bad, but the teacher always gets loads of chocolate and all kinds of junk food, I guess I'm doing her a favor in not giving her more of that stuff.

  • I work at Starbucks and there have been alot of people buying gift cards for teachers this last week. We also have these mugs that come with 1/2 pound of Christmas Blend coffee for only 9.95 which is a steal.

  • I gave my son's preschool teacher a $50 gift card and I gave the assistant a $30 gift card. I gave his morning and afternoon bus drivers a gingerbread house cookie jar with cookies inside and gave each of their assistants a big Holiday mug with chocolate truffles inside.
