what are government grants ?

ok so i know its money that you dont have to pay back but is that true? How do i apply or is it even a good idea to apply for one? And if so how do i apply for one and where?

  • If you are looking for a Pell grant for school, fill out the Fafsa and go from there. If you are looking for free money to start a business or fund a research project, I have no idea.

  • www.fafsa.ed.gov for school. For other grants you would check out Matthew Lesko's books or website.

  • p.s. Yes it's true. You do not have to pay a grant back. They are "granting"/giving you the money but it has to be used for whatever you applied for (school, small business, improvements, etc)

  • the grant is for personal. My husband left me with a pile of debts. And i cant seem to get hired anywhere. The thing is im a single mother for now but technically im still married even though were filed for divorce were still married would i still get help. Hes in jail and im raising them on my own with no income, except for the TANF ill be receiving but havent yet

  • It's money given to you by the government that you do not have to pay back. You may not qualify for any specific grant, because they're only used for certain things. You should go to your local government's website (MI's is Michigan.gov) and search their grant system. If you don't find it there then go to USA.gov and look at their grant system. Then apply if you meet the requirments.
