In your opinion when does a baby become a toddler?

If you wanna get technical, then I think it's when they are starting to "toddle" around (i.e. walk), but I've heard others say not until they are a year old or even 2... what do you think? (and of course there is the factor that some babies walk before a year and some after.... I knew a baby that walked at 9 1/2 months and another that didn't walk until 15 months)

  • I say around 16 months they are a toddler. That is when they are really getting into things and starting to talk.

  • When they start waking. That is what Toddler means. So there is not real age.

  • It is individual for every child. When they are beginning to walk on their own is the beginning of toddler stage. The toddler stage doesn't end to me until thjey are preschoolers..about 3 or so. When they are really picking up, cloors, shapes, counting...alll the things that ready them for school.

  • I believe that after 1 yr they're technically considered toddlers whether they walk or not (my son didn't walk until 16 1/2 months..)

  • I always thought it was...
    newborn ~ 0-2mos
infant ~ 2-12 mos (or whenever they start walking)
    Toddler ~ 12mos-3yrs
    preschooler~ 3&4
    But, that's just my idea...

  • they say its right at one year, but even though my son is walking, i still consider him a baby. maybe its just because hes my first and i have a hard time considering him a toddler child, i call him my baby. but i think tecchnically at 1 year he is a toddler

  • Butterflysky - Thats ok, I still consider my 6 year old "my baby" b/c he was my first, and it seems they just grow up so fast. I know he'll be taller than me before too long and i will still refer to him as "my munchkin" and "my baby"

But to OP - I believe its when they start walking
