Do you skip a bill or 2 at Christmas just so you can afford gifts?

I do, my light bill can wait another month and right now we are low on propane but are going to stretch it out another 2 weeks.
Christmas is a special time of year and i never can afford anything, never buy my kids anything so why should they go without when every one else gets gifts.
I'm not going to bother with gift donations, I just want to be able to pick out a few things, from me.
I have 4 kids and they are getting 3 things each.

  • You are going to screw up your credit doing that. Being late with bills messes up your credit

No, we pay our bills on time. Buying presents is not worth messing up our credit score.

  • I have in the past while a single mother of 2 dd's.
And I was able to catch those bills up the following month with
my paychecks so I do understand where you are coming from...
But even with the gifts make Christmas more of a family day for
you and the children... that is what we do...
Enjoy Your Holiday Season this yr ...

  • Nope - we save beforehand, a little every month, so we don't have to skip payments on anything.

  • First of all get stocking stuffers at the dollar store. If small toys are gonna break anyway why not. They will not know the difference. Second, call all your utility companies and see if you can set up a payment arrangement. Let them know of your issue. Some people are still sympathetic. You may be able to get them more. Good luck. And remember to give your kids love. Take them to see Santa.

  • no, we skip a bill or 2 if there's a more important bill due at the same time and we cant afford everything at once. We let our phone bill or cable bill slide (and just add on the lat fee) so we have rent out of our way, or if we need to do some much-needed grocery shopping. Thanks to savings and SO's odd jobs we were ablw to buy some gifts this year, but I made the majority of them which cost me practically nothing!

  • No because good credit is more important then a xbox360! I would never put off a bill instead of buying xmas junk.

  • most of your utilities dont report to credit for late payment. i know just our gas does..
anyway.. i havent had to yet.. but i would. im not going to let my kid do without when everyone else is getting presents.. even if its a couple presents.
    im with you girl.

  • OP here~

I'm not talking gaming systems, I'm talking about a few new outfits, a cozy blanket, cheap things...and I did buy some gifts at the dollar tree.
My kids would feel like crap if I said, sorry kids my credit is more important then your feelings.
My credit can be restored....I can't restore the childhood they have lived.....there's once shot at parenting and nothing gets in the way of that.
