Really? "The system worked?!" Interesting

The fact that this terrorist boarded a plane with explosive materials attached to his body and was able to actually attempt detonation (thank God it failed), does NOT mean "the system worked!" It means you got LUCKY....again!

If the system worked, the terrorist would not have been able to board the plane, almost make it to his destination, and attempt to accomplish his mission. Rather, he would have been stopped at the airport, questioned, and likely arrested (since he was wearing the explosive materials/device), and this would have been a non-issue.

  • NightPhoenix, the U.S. could have pulled his visa because he was on a terrorist watch list. The U.S. government had been warned by his own father he was dangerous, but they didn't pull his visa. I find that pathetic.

  • And people need to remember that he did NOT board that plane in the U.S. Whatever security he went through obviously was not up to U.S. standards. What you all fail to realize, is that no matter how much America beefs up their security, terrorists will ALWAYS find a way around it. This time, they did through another country. We're never safe, so climb out of your bubble and deal with reality. It will lower your stress level to just enjoy each day as it comes.

Ahh very true. Apparently the Airport security manual lists several ways in which someone might be able to evade their detector systems and sneak dangerous materials onto planes. There are several flaws in the system and probably always will be.

  • The system worked? He was subdued by the passengers! If that is what it takes to stop a terrorist, WTF do we have Homeland Security? Epic FAIL.

  • The US has also given full-body screening devices to other countries, Nigeria is one of them. Obviously, they are not using the security measures that they have. And just today, there was another incident on the same flight, involving a man from Nigeria as well. Don't have many details yet, but something happened. I don't know what can be done by the US to improve security measures in foreign countries, but something is going to have to be done such as these other countries will have to start using the equipment that has been given to them to help detect contraband materials and explosives.

  • I wonder if Obama will be rehashing this written piece in his response to the 9/11 attacks?! You know, the one where he blames POVERTY as the reason for the 19 middle-upper class, college educated, hijackers resorted to such a heinous crime against innocent American civilians!! Never mind the fact that the "almost bomber" also came from a privileged upbringing and was living in a 2 million pound apartment in London.

They appear to be happening every OTHER day! What will satisfy you....when they ARE successful?! I live in reality, it's you who seems to want to keep their head in the sand!

What is the point of WATCH LISTS and INTERPOL if they are not cooperating with the United States and other countries are cooperating with us regarding international travel?!

You KNOW that if this happened on Bush's watch you'd be demanding something be done! In fact you DID! It's because it's the wet-behind-the-big-ears Obama that you all feel you need to hold his hand, and protect him at every turn, by making endless excuses for him.

  • Manco: Homeland Security Dept. was created by Bush after 911 to supposedly make us more secure. Force agencies to work with each other ya da, ya da, ya da. All he needed to do was demand agencies do what they were designed to do, instead he created another useless government agency, that by the way I heard no one screaming about at the time or since. It was all done in the name of national security, so that makes all right.
