Talking to your kids about divorce...

My husband and I have decided to get a divorce. We are on good terms and have thought it out long and hard and we know it's what's best for our family.
We have two children, one whom is a baby and will likely not be effected much by the transition and the other is our 3 year old who will notice for sure.
They are still going to see their dad every day and will get to spend lots of time with him but he wont be living with us.
How do we talk to him to let him know what's happening so that he can understand?
We want to be open and honest with him but are kind of at a loss for what to say.

  • Don't talk to them about it unless they ask. With them being so young they will adapt very well. Most states require you to take a class when you have children and you go through a divorce. They will tell you how to handle it but children learn what they live. If they live with daddy not living with them then they see that as normal so no need to stress a child about something they wouldn't understand anyway
