  • Babies don't have to have juice. Formula fed babies shouldn't have it before 4 months, breastfed babies before 6 months. It should be given in an open cup, not a bottle or sippy cup and 4-6 ounces should be the max for babies and toddlers.

Juice has nutrition but eating fruit is better. For formula fed babies it can help with constipation. Usually people water juice down. The American Academy of Pediatrics is concerned about children drinking juice and has made these and other recommendations. One of the concerns is that children can get a lot of calories from drinking juice.

  • My daughter is almost 18 months and still doesn't drink any juice, just water and milk. Fresh fruit is much better.

  • My son is 28 months and still doesn't get juice. It's not necessary. Just empty calories.
