  • The bible was written by men... That's like asking if vampires don't exist, why are the Twilight books so popular? Okay, let me rephrase that. Every religion has a "holy book". It has all the laws and regulations of that particular religion in it. But that doesn't mean it was dictated by some guy in the sky. I'm sure whoever wrote the thing originally believed in the message. But over the years it's been modified/translated/parts deleted so many times, and so many atrocities have been committed "in the name of God" (any God, not just the Christian one), that I honestly don't believe the current version has much in common with the original.

  • God does exist and I believe that it was written as a guide for us and to tell us to prepare ourselves for the future. There are things in the bible that common man could not have known. Like the earth being circle in shape, how could they know that, there was no earth exploration at that time, even columbus thought the earth was flat. Babylon never being inhabited again, how could they know that that would be.

  • control

    - People don't need a Holy Book to try to control others. Non believers also attempt to control people too and use all types of symbols and concepts to try to do so. Writers of the bible often suffered and were killed because of their beliefs - whether you agree with those beliefs or not it's really judgemental to claim that they did it to try to control others.

  • The bible was written by man. The idea of God and all that it entails are all manipulative tools to control people, and gain power and wealth.

It's not judgemental; it's an opinion and in answer to a question that was posed.

  • I agree that it was written as a form of control. The writers felt that they where being told by a higher power to write these things, but that doesn't mean that the higher power was anything more then a feeling. Plus, with the number of times it has been translated and edited, how is ANYONE to say that it is still in it's original form, without ANYTHING added or subtracted?
