How much more do you get back in taxes for having children?

My husband's cousin was telling me they raised the amount for how much you get back in your tax refund for having children. Does anyone know how much per child they have raised it?

  • honestly i am not too sure but i think its like 1000 or something? Last year my husband and I got back a little over 5,000 dollars and that was mostly bc of our 3 children and now we have one more for this tax time. And I think if you make too much you don't get much back...but like i said i am not sure. don't quote me on it.. lol

  • You get a reduction in your income, which reduces your tax burden; you do not get a tax credit.

  • I thought it was $1000 per kid- up to two kids with the Child Tax Credit...
And then I think you can take the Additional Child Tax Credit ($1000? Maybe $500) for child number three.
And then of course if you qualify there is also the Earned Income Credit.

Check online at H&R Block to see what you'll get back.
