what can happen if you breed an average size shih tzu

to smaller one? i heard that the puppies will die or the mother cause the first one or one of them would get stuck. i disagree with this person who said this. i always thought it just meant that they would have fewer pups.....so who is right?

  • If the male is to big for the female it can cause problems and even death. This is very true. The pups can get stuck if they are too big and sometimes the female will end up needing a c-section. I have seen it happen.

  • op here so another question.......so lets say that the male is small but if his father or mother were big then he would still produce big puppies?

  • Depends. Size can skip a generation, so its possible the female will produce puppies that are too large for her to whelp properly.

If you don't know about these things, the best thing is to not breed and leave that up to people who are well versed in breeding.
