Did you make everyone wash their hands when they held your newborn?

I didn't. I mean, if they were sick, I kinda shifted Dave away from them, but I wasn't obsessive about germs. I'm still not, Lol. It drove my grandmother crazy, she was always telling everyone to scrub down and I was just passing him around. He's hardly ever sick and I don't care if he gets a little dirt on him! How about you?

  • Only in the newborn stage. My twin boys were preemies so yes I did ask people to use hand sanitizer. Same with my daughter, who was full term, but she was born in January in cold/flu season. I chose the hand sanitizer over hand washing because so many people just plain out suck at handwashing. they do it half ass and wash their hands completely the wrong way so we had hand sanitizer in the kitchen that people willingly used before holding her. After a month I didn't make anyone do it anymore. As long as they are not sick or getting sick then the germs they are exposed to will only strengthen their immune systems.

  • nope, I think people being obsessive germaphobes is the reason kids get so sick these days.

  • Only the first week. I wanted to give colostrom and my milk antibodies a chance to get working.

  • I did, but everyone (I mean EVERYONE. All the grandparents - step grandparents - great grandparents - cousins! EVERYONE!) was coming down with an evil cold that everyone but baby and I got.. mainly because I was like "WASH YOUR HANDS PUT ON THIS SWEATER IF YOU COUGH/SNEEZE NEAR US I WILL BBEEATT YOOOUU!" =p

We didn't get sick but I think I made them think I was a little paranoid. But I had a horrible delivery and both of us were getting over a nasty staph infection we got at the hospital.. so I didn't exactly want to add a cold to the situation.

Even if we hadn't been sick and they weren't all sick I still might make people wash their hands first. Resident germs are different than outsider germs.

  • Well, no I didnt.
However, my mother automatically did it and whispered to my sister to do it too LOL.

I didnt have too many visitors except them so they tended to themselves LOL.

  • I made everyone use the anti bacterial hand sanitizer because they were both born in FEB & my DD was in the NICU for 10days from her day of birth so I was concerned for her health. I mean we had just gotten her out of the hospital.

How ever once they both had been breastfeeding for a while I didn't mind ppl. not using it.
