feeding question!

I had my son 2 days ago, the first day he wouldnt eat ( he couldnt latch properly) so we worked on it for most of the day by night time gave him a little formula to see if hed eat, he did (sorta) second day it was the same thing, but then we ended up giving him formula before we got discharged, now that we are home he eats every hour or 2 of formula which is good i believe? but he only eats about 1 oz.

is that normal? just an 1 oz every hour or 2?

  • sounds good. My daughter was eating about 3 oz every 3 hours. So an ounce every hour or so sounds good. Remember tummies are very very small right now and they can not hold enough. A wonderful thing about newborns is that they have a shut off valve. they will not overeat and if they do, It will come right back up.

  • some babies wont eat at all for 3 days so that is fine. Keep trying to get him to latch though.

  • You can find a lot of breastfeeding support from other moms,, or the lactation consultant at your hospital. If you intended to breastfeed, you dont have to give up. He should get the hang of it once theres milk flowing.
