Obama's first veto

is the Defense Spending Bill!!!!! He vetoes the DSB while playing golf. The first legislation he vetoes is the money to support our military. What say you?

  • It wouldn't surprise me. He's already proven, numerous times, that he has no respect for our military. He doesn't want them to be able to take any more of his muslim brothers out.

  • The headline makes it sound like he really cut some spending. However, again the AP misleads--all Obama did was play lawyer, as he was trained.

I agree with this post from that article!

  • Would that be the DSB that included $4.2 billion in pork? About time he did something right. Blame congress for putting all that garbage in it - including prostate exams and sprinkler systems.

  • Oh, nm, I take that back - he passed that stupid one. Regardless, this one was pointless, he should've veto'd both.

  • According to the article it was a pre-emptive bill in case Congress wouldn't be able to pass the actual bill they wanted to for Pentagon funding due to a snow storm that was going to be expected.

The White House on Wednesday said Obama exercised his right to send back to the Capitol a temporary appropriations bill that lawmakers passed in case a winter storm about two weeks ago would have prevented them from approving a final measure to fund the Pentagon next year. The Dec. 19 blizzard didn't keep them away from the Capitol and they approved the $626 billion defense spending bill before the previous budget expired.

So, uh, I don't see what you're upset about. Per the article the budget still went through.

  • Actually, it was just a spin story to make the President look "tough!" LOL!

The White House described the move as a technicality that the President took out of an abundance of caution, and that it was his first veto.

  • Um... how did the story make him look tough if it actually gave the reason as to why the bill was veto'd? (That there was already another bill in waiting.) In order to make him look "tough" wouldn't they have left that detail out.

It's amazing how another perspective on an article that doesn't really give much in the way of opinion in it can turn it into something else. The article stated the bill that was veto'd and the reason why. It doesn't really give you much else. The fact that you took it as a show of being "tough" is beyond me.

  • Because the non-conservative outlets that I found this story on all "conveniently" left out the part in red, and didn't mention that this wasn't a veto that actually mattered!
