What do you make your kids for lunch?

I only ask because of the whole daycare question. When I do have my kids in my care (I work full time), I would make them either a pbnj or a corndog and a piece of fruit, their daycare gives them stuff like ravioli, burger, chicken nuggets, vegetables, fruit, bread, dessert, um, stuff like tacos/burritos/quesodilla etc...WOW! Good stuff!!

  • For at home? My 9 year old makes her own lunch. I usually make my 4 year old a sandwich or some soup, or whatever he asks for. I try to keep a variety of things in the kitchen.

  • Ya my kids get spoiled with all sorts of healthy and home cooked stuff at daycare lol....we'll have pasta or chicken with applesauce for desert...occasionally kids eat pretty much whatever I give them...I don't allow picky eaters in my house!

  • I actually watch kids in my home on occasion. I feed them the same things I feed my kids which is healthy food that is minimally processed. For lunches we have things like spaghetti with homemade low sodium sauce, peanut butter and jelly (Simply Jif with organic jelly on whole wheat bread), tuna sandwiches on whole wheat bread, low sodium soup with lowfat crackers, and usually a choice of fresh fruits or fresh vegetables.

  • I just have to say it makes me turn my nose up when Anonymous people leave smart unnecessary post. Just dont say anything! UGH!!

But anyway..... My daughter is in daycare fulltime and its the same thing for me. On weekends or days when we are home I have the hardest time trying to think of something for lunch. She eats good at the daycare. So most of the time I may do:

chicken nuggets, peaches and string beans

tuna sandwich, peaches and steamed carrots

ravioli or speghetti and a peaches

    taco and rice and peaches

My daughter loves diced peaches. LOL

  • My 9-yr old daughter attends a christian school that does not have a kitchen so I have to pack her a lunch and snacks everyday. At first I prepared what I thought would be good lunches. But many times her lunch box was full when she brought it home.

Then I took her to the store and let her pick out the food she wants to eat. The rule is that the food has to be nutritious. However, I do let her pick one fun item (like ho-hos or snack cakes). Every night we pack her lunch together (so I can monitor what goes in). And now I find that she is eating everything we pack. We try fun stuff like cheese and pepperoni on flat bread, fruits and veggie bags, sandwiches cut into triangles, mac-n-cheese with ham, home-made soups, left overs from her favorite dinners, etc.

  • Most days my daughter takes a thermos with leftovers. I have a huge list of bagged lunch ideas; send me a message offlist if you would like a copy.
