anyone want to share how it went when you transitioned your 2 year old from a crib to a toddler bed?

my son is actually 2 years + 3 months old and we are going to be changing his crib to a toddler bed soon. he hasn't climbed out but he can. if we are standing in the doorway, he will put one leg all the way over, and then be straddling the rails.

his crib turns into a toddler bed but didn't come with a side rail to keep him from falling out.

i'm so nervous about nap times going bye bye when we do this. he is pretty grumpy by late afternoon without his nap. and i'm nervous about night time too of course. especially going to sleep.

also i'm wondering what to do to keep him from roaming the house when he wakes up. i was thinking of setting up a baby gate in the hallway.

i just wanted to hear some other moms' stories of how it went.

  • we did an extra mattress on the floor next to the bed so rolling out wont be so bad. and we have a safety handle cover over for the inside knob. we keep her door closed during nap time being im sometimes doing house work then. at night we use a safety gate in the door way and keep her door closed untill she is asleep then open it...her room seems to be the coldest and need the flow of air going into her room. the trasition itself wasnt that bad it took a week of puttin her back into bed till she was asleep. now we removed the extra mattress and she climbs into bed on her own but sometimes climbs out to sleep in her bean bag. mornings go smoother with her being in the toddler bed she can get up and play while im getting my boys ready for school.
