do abusive partners have mental illnesses or are the just dicks?

  • Some could have a mental illness while others grew up in an abusive household.

  • My mom said my exhusband was possessed by the devil. I think he could make an atheist believe in the devil.

Apathy for human suffering is sociopathic behavior. Pleasure from human suffering is definitely serious, incurable mental illness. They should be used as lab test subjects.

  • Mental illness is used as an excuse by all sorts of criminals. Abusive men are just plain assholes. I don't care what happened in their past or if their dad spanked them too much or whatever. There is no excuse for abusing another person, particularly someone you claim to love.

  • wow, there are so many reasons for them being abusive but the main one I can think of is that children learn what they live. Chances are they were abused. It's a terrible cycle. They are not taught coping skills when they get angry or upset so they revert to what they do know, abuse. When they hurt they want everyone to hurt as well. There are disorders(mental illness) that can result in a person being abusive as well. Then there are just controlling dicks.

  • Minds? What minds? Some of them are just plain idiots. Abusers don't have minds, they do not think, they just feel that they can verbally or physically assault you.
