size difference between toddler bed and twin?

how much bigger is a twin size mattress from a toddler bed/crib mattress?
my son is doing well in his toddler bed, plus the frame was very affordable, and we already had the crib mattess. But I am still looking around for a twin since so many on here recommend going straight to a twin....

  • toddler bed is the same size as the crib - lower to the ground.

and a twin is bigger - 39 x 75 inches, and higher (usually) off the ground.

  • We ended up moving ours straight into the twin bed but we had an extra bunkie board that we used in place of the box springs. It dropped it to the level of a toddler bed and she can get in and out of it by herself and we're not worried about her falling out.
