What would you include in this?

If you had a patio with the size 12 x 12 what would you put in it for now right now it is connected to our dining room with french doors leading out to the patio that leads to the pool (small party pool) 4 x 5 x 4 ft. not big at all we have small kids but it does the job in the summer. Anyway I personally would like to take off the french doors and extend out the dining room all through the patio and make the dining room more spacious...what would you add to the rest of the area?
Thank you ladies for your input.

  • Additional seating for guests that is out of the way when you don't need it, like maybe a sitting wall? A fireplace or chiminea would be nice, but I'd worry about small children. Pots of fresh herbs and/or veggies would be both useful & pretty to look at. If you like to cook outdoors, a grill center complete w/mini refrigerator might be handy & great for entertaining. If you add a pergola over your patio area, you'll still get that outside space, but it will be more like an actual room and you'll also have some protection from hot sun, plus a place to add an outdoor ceiling fan if you wanted to. To make it feel more "livingroom-y" & like an extension of your house, you could use outdoor furniture like a sofa w/comfy cushions & side tables instead of a standard patio table & chairs. Retractable blinds or curtains hanging from the pergola would give you the option of more privacy if you wanted.
