How does your baby sleep?

Back or belly? My 6-week old will not sleep on her back at all. She's so cozy on her belly.

  • I always put my babies to sleep on their backs until they could roll over. Once they could roll over, they all have slept on their tummy's by preference. Mine liked sleeping on their tummies when they were babies, but even though I knew they would probably sleep better and longer on their tummies - I would never have been able to sleep because I would have been up every 5 mins checking their breathing!

  • Stomach sleeping is just one risk factor for SIDS. Other things you can do are: breastfeed, use a fan in baby's room, not let the baby sleep on soft surfaces, avoid excessive warmth, no blankets, no environmental tobacco smoke.

You can try swaddling your baby. There are swaddle blankets or you can use a regular blanket.

Yea! I wake up a lot to check on her, but it's not too bad, 'cause she sleeps in her bassinet at the foot of my bed & when I started putting her on her belly, I started sleeping with my head at the foot of the bed, so I'm only a few inches away from her head.

  • Back or side. At first she hated her back and had to sleep on her side. Now she will start off on her side and shift to her back. She does not care for tummytime, but is getting stronger.
